Crevasse Rescue Practice
Join the Mountaineering Club of New York for an engaging hands-on refresher on crevasse rescue techniques and essential rope skills—set right in the beautiful Central Park. Whether you're gearing up for a glacier expedition or just keen to enhance your skills, this session is open to all skill levels!
We’ll cover:
- 🧗♂️ 2:1, 3:1, and 6:1 hauling systems
- 🪢 Basic knots and friction hitches
- 🧵 Rope team travel
We recommend wearing comfortable clothes you won’t mind getting a little dirty, as much of the rope work involves kneeling on the grass.
If you have a harness, carabiners (ideally 4 non-lockers and 4 lockers), or even a rope, feel free to bring them along—extra harnesses and carabiners will also be available, so don’t worry if you can’t bring your own.
All you really need is a sense of adventure! No snow is required—just your imagination and some open grass.
Please note: While some club members have received training from guides, we are not a professional guiding service and do not provide formal training for safe mountaineering practices. It’s essential to seek formal training before attempting glacier travel.
