DIY/DIWO Anti-surveillance Wearables
⚡ DIY/DIWO Anti-surveillance Wearables Workshop 🎨
Are you fed up with the ceaseless observation of the digital world tracking your every move? Do you believe that we should have the right to disappear from scrutiny?
In this engaging workshop, you'll discover how to utilize affordable and accessible materials to create wearables that render you invisible to facial recognition systems and IR cameras. We’ll delve into effective strategies for exploiting the weaknesses of these technologies to safeguard your privacy, which you’ll put into practice while prototyping your custom anti-surveillance wearable. To validate the effectiveness of your creation, we’ll employ a facial recognition photo booth to determine your “how-not-to-be-seen score.” The workshop will close with an anonymous group portrait.
Facilitators:
👩🎨 Angelina Almukhametova: A US-based artist from Kazan, Russia, exploring cybernetics and techno-culture through digital and analog methods. Her installations and performances challenge perceptions and have been showcased across Europe, the US, and Iceland.
👨🎨 Dann Disciglio: A transdisciplinary artist researching the interplay between naturalism, humanism, and biological-computational systems. He constructs innovative installations that offer insight into non-human experiences. Currently, he is a Visiting Professor of Art & Technology at Lewis & Clark College, focusing on ecological and technological explorations.
This workshop is part of our latest exhibition, The Epistemologies of Slop, which investigates the creation of meaning, trust, and culture amidst algorithmic abundance and generative media.
