🌍 Join us for a free screening of Pig Feast, an impactful Indonesian documentary featuring English subtitles.

Synopsis:

Pig Feast sheds light on the extensive land grabbing of Indigenous Papuan territories for bioethanol production. This eye-opening film highlights how government policies and corporate interests contribute to the devastation of millions of hectares of rainforest, endangering biodiversity, traditional livelihoods, and the very survival of Indigenous communities.

Historical Context:

Papua was not integrated into Indonesia during the nation’s independence in 1945. The territorial dispute with the Netherlands reached the United Nations, culminating in the controversial 1969 Act of Free Choice. This process has faced widespread criticism as a sham, involving handpicked Papuans by the Indonesian military who were coerced into voting on behalf of a population of around a million.

To this day, issues of human rights abuses, environmental degradation, and economic disparity persist. Despite Papua’s significant natural wealth, Indigenous Papuans represent some of the most impoverished and marginalized communities in Indonesia.

📢 After the screening, stay for an open discussion to delve into the film and the ongoing social, environmental, and political challenges faced by Papua.
