For Whom a Flag Can Be: Contemporary Art Talk by Luca Molnar

Join Stetson University’s Associate Professor Luca Molnar for an engaging talk that delves into how contemporary artists reinterpret the American tradition of protest through their expressions of the flag and its broad meanings. ✊

Explore the provocative works of artists like Faith Ringgold, Dread Scott, and David Hammons, who interrogate the loaded symbol of the U.S. flag and challenge who it represents. This conversation is part of the exhibition Our Flag in American Art: 1935-2026 and highlights the responses of minoritized artists to America’s protest culture.

Luca Molnar specializes in the histories of lesser-known women’s resistance against state abuses across medical, judicial, or labor systems. Her book, The Mother Game, is a collaborative work created with Kat Shannon. Notable recent projects include Worker Bees, a mural that celebrates Floridian farmworkers and their advocates, installed at the Mennello Museum of American Art in Orlando.
