From Plate to Paper: Relief Printmaking with Tamika Grant-Iramu

Join established relief printmaker Tamika Grant-Iramu for an immersive introduction to the art of relief printmaking! Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, this hands-on workshop will guide you through every stage of the process, from developing a design and learning carving techniques to inking and producing your own hand-printed artwork on paper.

Renowned for her meticulous craftsmanship and exhibition-quality prints, Tamika is an experienced artist and generous educator who is passionate about sharing her knowledge. This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a practicing artist with both professional and academic expertise.

Tamika's creative practice is deeply informed by her Torres Strait Islander and Papua New Guinean heritage, alongside the Western influences of her upbringing. This rich cultural perspective shapes her distinctive printmaking practice, which explores organic forms, flora, patterns, and storytelling. Represented by Onespace Gallery and formally trained at Griffith University's Queensland College of Art & Design, Tamika brings a wealth of industry experience to her teaching.

Throughout the workshop, participants will learn the foundations of relief printmaking, including:

• Composing a design from reference imagery
• Carving techniques
• Mark-making
• Inking and hand-printing

Tamika will also share techniques for creating depth, texture, and tonal variation through carving, resonating with mark-making traditions practiced by First Nations peoples for thousands of years.

Please wear old clothes or bring an apron, as printmaking can get a little inky! Along the way, Tamika will introduce the tools, papers, inks, and carving methods she uses in her own studio practice, providing valuable insights for anyone interested in continuing their printmaking journey beyond the workshop.
