Celebrate the vibrant community of Gowanus as we host a yearbook signing party! This event honors both long-time residents and newcomers in this ever-evolving neighborhood. The Gowanus Yearbook serves as a participatory archive, currently hosted at the Van Alen Institute since February 2025, and it continues to grow!

If you’ve had your portrait taken for the archive, come find yourself within it! If you haven’t yet participated, don’t miss out on this chance—become part of a living portrait of Gowanus!

About Gowanus Yearbook:
This project invites locals to have their photos taken, include the year they arrived or were born in Gowanus, and draw a symbol depicting “What makes Gowanus Gowanus?” To date, we've collected over 50 portraits through various community events held at the Van Alen Institute, NYCHA’s Gowanus Houses Community Center, and Wild East Brewing Co.
