Neiman Marcus was never really in the business of selling clothes. It was in the business of selling ideas. It taught a young city how to see. It introduced generations of Texans to art, architecture, design, craftsmanship, fine creative dining, and international culture. It raised expectations. And in doing so, it transformed Dallas from a prosperous regional American city into one that aspired to stand comfortably beside New York, Paris, Milan, and London.

Larry Leathers spent more than thirty years inside the creative culture of Neiman Marcus, working directly on fashion show sets, holiday installations, traveling exhibitions, and projects commissioned by Stanley Marcus himself. He offers a first-hand perspective on how the company helped shape the artistic and aesthetic identity of Dallas.

Larry Leathers spent fifteen years advancing through the Visual Department at Neiman Marcus, eventually becoming Special Projects Coordinator in the corporate visual office, where he executed projects including assignments commissioned by Stanley Marcus himself. He later founded his own visual display company and returned to design the celebrated downtown Dallas holiday windows from 2010 through 2015.
