Lisa Golightly: Becoming the Sea
Join us at the Billis/Williams Gallery for the captivating exhibition, LISA GOLIGHTLY: BECOMING THE SEA! 🎨 This is our fifth solo show featuring the Portland-based artist's striking paintings inspired by vintage photographs. The exhibition showcases a monumental new piece, one of Golightly’s largest works to date.
Lisa Golightly's artistry is deeply rooted in the essence of capturing memories. Her creative process begins with a heartfelt search through thrift stores and estate sales, uncovering forgotten photographs that reveal glimpses into the lives of others. The resulting artwork evokes nostalgia, transforming these moments into timeless expressions that resonate universally.
Her gestural style, characterized by a high gloss enamel on aluminum, creates a luminous finish that reflects the photographs that inspire her. The color palette is thoughtfully reduced, with forms distilled to their essence, while the textures she achieves are both nuanced and elegant.
Golightly’s work explores the fluid nature of memory, embodying a sense of stillness yet existing on the fringes of reality. Each painting invites contemplation of how both photographs and memories can shift and evolve, revealing their elusive nature.
Lisa Golightly (b. 1974, Eugene, Oregon) received her BFA in Fine Art Photography and Photojournalism from the University of Arizona. With numerous exhibitions under her belt, her work has gained recognition in publications such as Ppaper Magazine, Luxe Interior and Designs, and The Huffington Post. In addition to her artistic endeavors, she has collaborated with musicians, producing album artwork and more.
