Founded by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece band reinterprets Mingus’ compositions in a vibrant larger band format that he envisioned.

With an emphasis on spontaneous creativity, the Mingus Big Band features a rotation of NYC’s top musicians, ensuring each performance is a unique exploration of Mingus’ musical genius. Recognized for their brilliance, the band has received seven GRAMMY nominations, including a recent nod for The Charles Mingus Centennial Sessions in 2022, and a win for Live at Jazz Standard in 2011.
