Porta Bohemica: degustace
Porta Bohemica is a natural winery founded in the village of Velké Žernoseky in 2010, specializing in dry, naturally fermented wines from the České středohoří region.
We grow our grapes on a mixture of volcanic and marl subsoil in a unique microclimate above the Elbe River.
The winemaking tradition in the village of Velké Žernoseky dates back to the mid-13th century, but wine has been produced in the Litoměřice region since the time of Prince Spytihněv II, that is, since 1057.
Manual labor in the vineyard is the most important step on the path to natural wines. When cultivating the vines, we strive to limit the use of sprays to the absolute minimum. The grapes are harvested by hand, crushed or trodden, and the must then rests on the skins for several days. The resulting must is spontaneously fermented. We leave the wine in the cellar over the winter, stored in oak barrels and kvevri, among other vessels, where it matures without further intervention. This allows the wine to freely express its varietal character and terroir.
The goal is to produce harmonious wines with the juicy acidity so characteristic of our region. The main varieties are Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, and Pinot Noir. We also grow Early Red Veltliner, Green Veltliner, Chardonnay, Red Traminer, and St. Laurent.
