Postgres ATL Meetup August 2026
We're excited to kick off the first Atlanta Postgres Meetup!
Whether you work with Postgres every day or are just starting to explore it, come hang out with other engineers, exchange ideas, and learn something new. Expect two technical talks, plenty of time for questions, and an opportunity to meet other people working with Postgres in the Atlanta area.
Agenda
6:00 PM – Doors Open & Networking
Meet fellow engineers and settle in before the talks begin.
6:30 PM – Designing a Highly Available Load Balancer Layer with HAProxy + Keepalived
Speakers: Jeyaram Ayyalusamy & Suresh Varadhan
Learn how to build a highly available load-balancing layer for Postgres using HAProxy and Keepalived. We'll cover VIP failover, dual HAProxy nodes, health checks, and practical techniques for eliminating single points of failure.
7:00 PM – Scaling Postgres Beyond Query Optimization
Speaker: Alex Yarotsky
Scaling Postgres is not only about fixing slow queries and adding indexes. In this talk, we'll go over practical lessons from running Postgres under production load, covering the defaults that stop working at scale, how to tune autovacuum, and how long-running transactions can quietly hurt performance.
7:30 PM – Q&A & Networking
Stick around to continue the discussion, ask questions, and get to know others from the local community.
This meetup is bound by the PostgreSQL Code of Conduct.
