Reconstructing the Abbey of St Edmund - Dr Richard Hoggett
Join us for an enlightening evening as Dr. Richard Hoggett, an expert archaeologist and heritage consultant, delves into the storied past of the Abbey of St Edmund—once one of the most significant monastic houses in western Christendom and the revered home of the Shrine of Edmund.
After its dissolution in 1539, the abbey fell into disrepair, with its structures being repurposed and the grounds redeveloped. This lecture explores various reconstruction attempts since the 18th century, allowing us to grasp the true beauty and historical significance that has been lost over the centuries.
