The Power of Perspective: A Fiction Writing Workshop on Point of View

O události

✨ Join South Bay Paper Trail for an engaging fiction writing workshop! Our mission is to build a vibrant community of writers in the South Bay through sustainable workshops and professional development.

🎉 Whether you're a casual writer seeking a creative group or an aspiring professional, this workshop supports your creative journey with craft-focused discussions and guided exercises.

📚 We are thrilled to have Yimin (Tori) Huang, an accomplished author with an MFA, as our host.

📝 The Curated Writing Workshop

Limited to 10 participants - register early!
In this 2-hour session, Tori will delve into the art of storytelling from various perspectives: first, second, and third person, both limited and omniscient! You'll explore these narrative techniques through examples, discussions, and writing prompts. By the end, you'll even unlock the unique strengths of the second person “you” POV.

🌈 Everyone will have the chance to share their writing during the group session, and Tori will provide constructive feedback. No prior writing experience is necessary, so come ready to meet new people and discover your creative voice! Leave with the beginning of your own story inspired by Tori's expertise!

📖 Additionally, Tori's thought-provoking poetry book, Estrangement, will be available for purchase at a 10% discount on-site. This book explores various forms of estrangement in politics, family, and society.

🎯 Learning Objectives for the Workshop

  • Identify Narrative Perspectives: Recognize different points of view through excerpts from renowned stories.
  • Differentiate Narrators from Writers: Understand the nuances between character voices, narrator voices, and the unique voice of the (fictional) writer.
  • Analyze the Impact of POV: Assess how a chosen point of view influences character motivations and emotions.
  • Apply POV in Practice: Showcase the ability to write a character from multiple perspectives.
