Since their formation at the turn of the 90s, the legendary NYC power trio Unsane has been renowned for their raw abrasive sound, blending elements of punk, heavy metal, and industrial into a trailblazing sonic signature that has earned them the status of a cult hardcore band.
Unsane emerged from the Manhattan DIY scene centered around the iconic underground venue CBGB, where they shared the stage with groups such as Helmet, Cop Shoot Cop, Surgery, and Quicksand in the early years. Unsane released their self-titled debut album via Matador, and by the mid-1990s they were touring relentlessly not only across the U.S. but also in Europe – including a key co-headlining tour with Neurosis in 1996. Over the years, the band had gone through a turbulent evolution, multiple lineup changes, and both major success and personal tragedies.
Unsane reformed in 2021, when the group's original guitarist Chris Spencer was joined by a new rhythm section: bassist Eric Cooper (Made Out of Babies) and drummer Jon Syverson (Daughters). The band celebrated the reissue of its 1991 debut with a major tour, and next year they are heading out again – this time also stopping at Prague’s MeetFactory in April after a show at Roadburn Festival.
The evening will open with Prague noise-rock band Děti deště, which has been part of the Silver Rocket label since 2007. “We play Slavic noise, punk with elements of noise and occasional excursions into heavy genres. We like Swans, Ministry, Sonic Youth, Einstürzende Neubauten, Melvins, Mudhoney, The Beatles, Unsane, Michael’s Uncle, Gnu, Lvmen, Lyssa, Squall, OTK, Ninna Simone, Hana Hegerová, Pavel Bobek, Suchý–Šlitr, Part Chimp, Beastie Boys, Švehlík… etc. We’ve been playing for years, we play for fun, and sometimes after a concert some of us have to go straight to work.”
