Atmospheric Antennas with Hannah Kemp-Welch

Join us for an immersive workshop exploring the intersection of infrastructure and atmosphere through sound! 🎶 In small collaborative groups, we will construct DIY antennas to tune into Very Low Frequency (VLF) radio waves, uncovering the hidden hums of urban life — from appliances like microwaves to the power grid itself. 🏙️

What to Expect:

• Listen to Nature: Outside the city, we'll capture electromagnetic waves from natural events, such as the static bursts from distant lightning strikes. 🌩️
• Antenna Designs: Experiment with two designs: a collaborative large loop antenna and a portable hula-hoop version created by artist Dan Tapper. 💡
• Commoning Process: Participants will contribute to a shared library of antennas, fostering a community resource for ongoing exploration.

This workshop is part of the "Under Construction" series, curated by artist Alisa Oleva. We invite artists and writers from diasporic backgrounds to reflect on what it means to be 'under construction' through themes of home, language, and identity. 🏡💬
