💃 About Vangeline: A renowned teacher, choreographer, and dancer specializing in Japanese Butoh, Vangeline serves as the artistic director of Vangeline Theater/New York Butoh Institute. Her pioneering work champions diversity, inclusion, and amplifies underrepresented voices in the Butoh community.

Her all-female dance company creates innovative choreographic works that blend Butoh with activism. Vangeline is also the founder of the New York Butoh Institute Festival, celebrating women in Butoh, and Queer Butoh, centering LGBTQ+ voices within this profound art form. Furthermore, she leads the Dream a Dream Project, reaching behind barriers to share Butoh in correctional facilities across New York State.

Vangeline’s philosophy emphasizes that Butoh can act as a vehicle for personal and collective transformation, integrating the beauty and darkness of the human experience while rekindling voices historically marginalized in society.

Her accolades include international presentations in countries such as Chile, Germany, Italy, France, and more. Among her honors, she proudly received the 2026 National Endowment for the Arts Dance Award and has been featured in major publications like The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times.
