Who gets to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and live free from environmental harm? Environmental justice aims to ensure equal protection from environmental hazards for all people, regardless of race, income, or background.

About the Speaker:
Mona Shomali, an Iranian American author, visual artist, and former adjunct faculty professor, has extensively worked at the intersection of environmental justice and human rights. She has collaborated with Organizations like Communities for a Better Environment and Pesticide Action Network.

Mona will delve into the history and significance of environmental justice, using three case studies:

1. The Flint water crisis
2. Latino farmworkers in California's San Joaquin Valley
3. The Sarayaku Indigenous tribe's landmark case against Ecuador in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights

These stories illuminate not only the scale of the challenges faced by marginalized communities but also the resilience of those fighting back. ⚖️
