Barragga Yangga

Barragga Yangga, meaning ‘Many Songs’ in traditional Dhurga language, is a moving celebration of First Nations language, story, and song. Created under the artistic direction of Cheryl Overton (née Davison), this extraordinary project features the intergenerational Yuin choir Djinama Yilaga, along with Heath Cullen, Fred Leone, and more.

🎵 Experience the Performance:
The audience will be immersed in classical music and new songs in traditional Dhurga language, uplifted by local children’s and adult choirs. This collection of songs is the culmination of three years of creative development by Djinama Yilaga, Four Winds, and the Bundanon Trust.

📜 Song Highlights:

• Ancient Yuin Stories: Songs weave together ancient Yuin stories with personal reflections on family and connection to Country.
• Bundoola's Tale: One song tells of ancestor Bundoola – the lightning and thunder spirit – and his 13 wives from the Yuin nation.
• Whale Journey: “Wandung Bawarr Njiinj” recounts how whales arrive when the wattle blooms, signaling a journey to higher country.
• Community Gathering: “Yaway”, meaning ‘come and sit down’, invites people together while acknowledging the need to gather, retell stories, and heal from the disruptions of colonization.
• Personal Reflections: Other songs reflect on growing up on Wallaga Lake Mission and honor Uncle Jimmy Little.
• Closing Piece: The collection concludes with “We Have Tomorrow and She Looks Good”.
