About the event

Join us for a captivating screening of Beach Birds, a 14:59 minute film directed by Ivana Larrosa. After a car accident leaves a woman with persistent double vision, she embarks on a transformative healing journey that challenges her perception of the world.

🎨 Inspired by Merce Cunningham's piece Beach Birds, this film blends experimental cinema with the mesmerizing ballet movements of performers Begoña Rivero, Andres Senra, and Ivana Larrosa against the enchanting score by John Cage. With New York City as a backdrop, the performance explores the unity between the human body and nature, guided by a Shaman and Guardian through ritual and trance.

About the Artist in Residence: Ivana Larrosa combines video, movement, sound, and natural elements in her live performances. As part of her residency at Governors Island, she is crafting Sphere, a captivating installation that intertwines recordings of the island’s environment with projection and gesture. Participate in guided field walks and workshops to share your own observations!

🏞️ Visit Governors Island: Take the ferry from Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridge Park (Pier 6), or Red Hook/Atlantic Basin, running every 30 minutes. Check the ferry schedule here.

📍 Our House on the Island: Located at 410A, Colonels Row. After disembarking, walk toward the QC Spa, and our house will be the first on the left.
