Nix: Experiences and Perspectives

Nix is a beloved yet complex tool that combines a build system, programming language, and operating system. But is it the right tool for every job, or is it just a hammer looking for nails? 🤔

In this talk, Kait will introduce Nix to a curious audience from the perspective of a reluctant user in a research environment. We will celebrate Nix's strengths, especially in comparison to Docker, and discuss the challenges faced by users. Additionally, we will explore Nix's role among other build and package tools and speculate on future improvements to enhance its usability and friendliness.
