About the event

Welcome to the Black Horror Collective 🩸, a new book club at Long Dark House dedicated to reading, discussing, and celebrating Black voices in horror and the strange, unsettling stories they tell.

First Read: Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler

For our inaugural meeting, we will dive into a legend: Octavia E. Butler's Fledgling. This final novel reimagines the vampire story through themes of identity, race, power, family, desire, and belonging. It's strange, provocative, and sometimes uncomfortable, providing plenty of material for discussion — exactly what we want for our first conversation.

Come prepared to share your thoughts on what you loved, what disturbed you, and what made you think deeply.

About the Black Horror Collective

This space is centered on Black horror writers, stories, and perspectives — from genre legends to new and emerging voices. Expect a variety of horror novels, speculative fiction, gothic stories, supernatural tales, psychological horror, and books that challenge categorization.

You don't need to be a horror expert or a seasoned book club member; just bring your curiosity and willingness to engage in conversation.

Books will be available for purchase at Long Dark House, but buying from us is never required.

This is just the beginning — more strange reads, conversations, and Black horror await! 🖤
