Boz Scaggs, known for his early collaboration with Steve Miller in The Ardells and the Steve Miller Band, launched his solo career in 1969. His breakthrough came with the 1976 album Silk Degrees, which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and featured hit singles like Lido Shuffle and Lowdown.

He continued to achieve success with two more platinum-certified albums, Down Two Then Left and Middle Man, the latter producing top-40 singles Breakdown Dead Ahead and Jojo. Scaggs also played a pivotal role in the formation of Toto, hand-picking members for his 1976 album, including David Paich, David Hungate, and Jeff Porcaro, solidifying their future collaboration.
