About the event

Delaying Age-Related Diseases: Discovering Ergothioneine's Role in Dementia Prevention 🍄🧠
Join us for an illuminating discussion led by esteemed Professor Barry Halliwell, hosted by Kamil Pabis, PhD, and co-organized by the VIVA Foundation.

In our quest for longevity, oxygen plays a crucial role in energy production, but it also has a darker aspect — the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can harm our tissues. While antioxidants such as vitamins C and E receive much attention, another vital antioxidant, ergothioneine (ET), predominantly found in mushrooms, remains largely overlooked.

Our research indicates that ET could be essential in preserving brain health and potentially delaying dementia and other age-related ailments. Although preliminary clinical trials show promise, rigorous research is still needed to validate these outcomes. With growing evidence suggesting that ET might be a “longevity vitamin,” this is an event you won’t want to miss!
