About the event

What we expect from stand-up and comedy writing has been changing for years. Between backlash toward the old guard, the rise of influencer comedians, and an increasingly online audience, many are asking: Is the craft of comedy writing changing—or becoming a lost art?

Join Lit Club NYC and Summit Books for an interactive writing salon inspired by Dangerland! by Erin Singer as we explore these questions through conversation, close observation, and guided writing.

Together, we'll examine what makes something funny, why comedy has become one of today's most contested art forms, and how humor can help us better understand ourselves and the world around us. Through playful prompts, writing exercises, and small-group discussion, participants will experiment with voice, perspective, timing, and finding comedy in everyday life.

The evening will conclude with an optional live reading for anyone interested in sharing their work, followed by time to connect with fellow writers and readers.

No prior writing experience is required, and sharing is always optional. Come to write, laugh, meet fellow creative people, and leave with fresh ideas, new connections, and perhaps a few new pages.

🎟️ Ticket includes light bites, guided writing exercises, small-group workshops, community networking, and access to the optional reading
