About the event

Join us for an engaging series of writing workshops at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park! 🌆 This initiative is designed for students, emerging writers, and professionals, welcoming all New Yorkers from the five boroughs. Dive into the complex contradictions of the American Revolution—a struggle for liberty amid the realities of enslavement.

Through stimulating prompts and community discussions, participants will delve into pivotal themes such as freedom, displacement, and identity during Revolutionary-era New York.

The workshop is part of the "Battle in the Margins" project, a collaboration between OPRHP and Black Gotham Experience, spotlighting Black life in NYC during the Revolution. This theatrical endeavor features a series of original one-act plays that center on the experiences and resistance of the African Diaspora, illuminating often overlooked narratives in America's founding history.

🎉 This exciting series culminates in a premiere on September 19th at FDR Four Freedoms State Park. Don't miss this opportunity to contribute to an important conversation about history and identity!

Hosted by the Black Veterans Project.
