One evening at the Prague restaurant Pod Vyšehradem, where Cimrman liked to go for fish specialties, the owner of the restaurant sat down next to him and asked him if he would put together a live tableau called "Czechs at the North Pole" for the next ball of the Braník brewery ice makers. Cimrman accepted the offer and decided to study the polar theme directly on site. The most valuable contribution of his trip to the Arctic was his discovery of the snow man (játy). Cimrman met him in person, and since it happened during the rutting season, he was able to observe his sex life up close. After returning home with a severe cold, he dictated the play "The Broken Child" to his neighbor Padevět, which was virtually unplayable in the form reconstructed by Dr. Brukner, but which is perfectly playable after the text was revised by Prof. Vondruška.

When Cimrman recovered, but his right hand was unable to hold a pen due to frostbite, he wrote the play "kompaktní a čira jeko střechýl" (Compact and Clear as a Roof) (Šalda) The Conquest of the North Pole by Czech Karel Němec. From it, the world learns – unfortunately too late – that a group of four Prague hardy souls reached the northernmost point of our planet a whole day earlier than American R. E. Peary.
