EcoCupid Film Festival | Environmental Cinema Afternoon

We kick off the afternoon with a curated screening of "Itam: A Sun Bear Story", a story based in the rainforests of Borneo, followed by a follow-up chat with director Raymond Tan. Then, an hour of curated films and panels from the Earth in Focus Film Festival featuring Singaporean youth filmmakers. We will travel to Da Nang, Vietnam, where we experience a film by the rising nature documentary team, Viet Endangered Narratives.

Then, we will screen our very own "The Mekong Trap", a documentary uncovering the true cost of Thailand's renewable energy transition, which will be immediately followed by a panel session that asks one sharp question: What would an underreported energy transition story look like for Singapore?

Come for a single film or stay for the whole thing. It's a relaxed, thoughtful afternoon and a good place to meet filmmakers, journalists, and others who love a good environmental story.

The festival continues in the evening with "Afterthoughts: Impact-based Environmental Media", a high-level discourse bringing together sustainability leaders, media professionals, and nonprofits to close the festival. The evening opens with six short documentaries showcasing localized environmental initiatives across Singapore, featuring Pasarfish, Stridy, MOVE&JOY, Fashion Parade, Young Nautilus, and ShareRight. Following the screenings, a fireside chat will address the question: Should we back environmental work in Southeast Asia through honest storytelling, and how do we execute it effectively? Moderated by Dr. Simon JD Schillebeeckx (Assistant Professor of Strategy & Entrepreneurship, Singapore Management University), with panelists Robin Hicks (Sustainability Journalist and Editor) and Rizaldy Yudhista Nurzirwan (Senior Manager, Green Technology of ST Engineering).
