Consider the girl group: a divine feminine moment in pop culture. From the riot grrrls of the ’90s to sleek R&B trios and glam dancing quintets, the girl group has often been constructed by men, shaped by the music industry machine.

Where does the girl group stand in today’s world? What happens when the girl group is created by women?

This story begins in Liverpool with Katya, Maria, Thea, Mia, and Lil – our Girl Group. These five women met at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and have lived together in youthful chaos and harmony.

While Katya, Thea, Maria, and Mia hail from Oslo, Lil is the resident Yorkshire woman. Each member brings unique sounds and a spectrum of sonic references, united by their shared frustration with the music industry's boy's club.

The name “Girl Group” was chosen to embrace and subvert the concept of industry-made girl groups, creating a community that fosters collaboration among women in music. Every part of their creative journey is crafted by women, and Girl Group is doing just that!
