About the Artist:
John Fleissner (b. 1989, Milwaukee, WI) is a printmaker and muralist dedicated to empowering working-class social movements through his art. His experiences in the labor movement shape his work, often inspired by new organizing campaigns. John teaches Printmaking in Milwaukee Public Schools, emphasizing the transformative power of art. He is also an active organizer with the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association, advocating for worker and student rights.

About the Project:
During his residency, John will create a large-scale woodcut series focused on significant labor history events, particularly labor strikes from the 1930s, including:

• The Toledo Autolite Strike
• The Minneapolis Teamsters Strike
• The San Francisco General Strike

Additionally, he will research working-class organizing in the South, such as The South Tenants Farmers Union. Alongside these large prints, John will produce smaller linoleum cuts for posters, which often circulate globally on picket lines, streets, and classrooms. His public engagements will connect printmaking to social justice and collective action.
