Motherland

Performance Motherland combines contemporary dance, object action, and lyrical texts. Through these artistic forms, Nhung Dang and her collective explore various forms of parenthood – from those inspired by the animal world and cultural myths to images created in their own imagination. Through androgynous and posthuman depictions of the body, they disrupt established notions of motherhood and gender roles. They ask whether – and how – “motherhood” can exist outside the bodies of “mothers” and who can take on the role of caregiver.
