Philosophy Debate Night

About the event

Looking for a different kind of philosophical discussion?

Volunteers are randomly assigned one of many philosophical statements and given 10 minutes to prepare an argument.

Possible statements include Free will exists, Lying is sometimes morally justified, It is better to be happy than to know the truth, and many more.

Each volunteer then gives a 5-minute defence of their assigned claim. This is followed by a 15-minute group discussion, where participants are encouraged to ask probing questions, raise objections, and help refine the argument.

The process then repeats with the next volunteer and a new statement.

No prior experience in philosophy or debating is required—just curiosity and a willingness to think. If you're feeling brave, volunteer and discover which philosophical claim you'll be asked to defend.
