About the event

🌌 Ever look up and marvel at the beauty and wonder of the universe? Join us for a rare opportunity to witness a solar eclipse, the last of which was seen in the UK in 1999, and won't return until 2090.

🚀 But there’s more celestial wonder: Tonight will also be the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. After the eclipse, as the skies darken, we'll enjoy the UK's largest natural fireworks display. Using telescopes, we will gaze at majestic Saturn and its stunning rings, iconic star fields, remnants of supernovae, Jupiter, and its potential life-harboring moons. We'll also explore multi-star systems reminiscent of the twin suns of Star Wars and Tau Ceti, a star hosting two Earth-like worlds in its habitable zone. Plus, enjoy the meteors!

All of this under a warm summer evening, complete with drinks, engaging conversation, and good-natured banter. In between observations, we’ll have drinks and discussions on various astronomy topics: Space exploration, Fermi Paradox, Astrobiology, Cosmology, Paleontology, SETI & Drake Equation for alien civilizations, exoplanetology, and more. Expect some light-hearted jokes and perhaps an impersonation of Los Angeles ET! 👽

To enhance the atmosphere, I’ll also play some space-themed tunes and songs about the stars!

You don’t need a telescope, as you will be able to view through scopes belonging to me and other club members (as long as you behave responsibly and don’t tamper with expensive equipment).
