Sisters of Jazz

Join us for a remarkable celebration titled "It's All About the Ladies", a heartfelt tribute to the often overlooked female instrumentalists, composers, and lyricists of jazz. This event shines a spotlight on artists like Mary Lou Williams, Kay Swift, Nancy Hamilton, and many others who have significantly influenced the jazz world, paving the way for legends such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and John Coltrane.

The project kicked off in 2014 when the talented jazz vocalist, composer, and lyricist Anna Pauline was tasked with gathering an all-female band for a concert on International Women's Day. This successful event laid the foundation for the Sisters of Jazz, a group of accomplished female musicians from Denmark and Sweden. The inspiring idea for the program arose during Anna's visit to Tate Gallery in London, where she was moved by the works of lesser-known female artists alongside giants like Gauguin, Monet, and Van Gogh.

Since their inception, Sisters of Jazz has toured in Sweden, Denmark, and Germany, earning glowing reviews from media outlets such as Sydsvenskan and Orkesterjournalen. Their journey includes the release of a four-track EP plus a bonus song in the fall of 2017, as well as their debut full-length album "The Hidden Ladies of Jazz", released in the autumn of 2023. This album showcases 12 tracks composed by women, with several arrangements by Anna Pauline herself.
