Om evenemanget

This truly “extraordinary” concert, not only because of its venue but also because of its program and performers, could be subtitled “Arnold Schoenberg and his ‘family’.” Zemlinsky was Schönberg's brother-in-law. Alma Schindler (later married three times as Mahler-Gropius-Werfel) was not only Schönberg's student but also Zemlinsky's great love (he also introduced her to Schönberg, but Schönberg resisted the charms of this Viennese femme fatale). And Ullmann, Wellesz, and Zeisl were all direct students of the Viennese master. Through the songs performed—masterful poetic and musical miniatures—the concert audience is completely immersed in the unique atmosphere of Vienna as a city of music at the beginning and in the first decades of the 20th century, which was unparalleled in the art world at the time but was abruptly interrupted in 1938 by the “Anschluss” of Austria. In particular, the songs of Alma Schindler, of which only fifteen have survived (after her marriage to Gustav Mahler, she gave up her composing career at his insistence), will certainly be a great discovery for Czech audiences! And the star performers also guarantee an extraordinary experience.
