Taj Mahal is a monumental figure in the world of music — an enduring legend who has embraced and celebrated the blues. For over sixty years, he has taken listeners on a journey, showcasing the blues as a vibrant, evolving genre intertwined with rock, gospel, folk, and more.
Born in Harlem in 1942 to a musical family, Taj's upbringing was steeped in culture and creativity, shaping him into a multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire. He plays roughly twenty instruments and counting!
His accolades include five Grammy wins and sixteen nominations, including his 2022 wins for Get On Board with Ry Cooder and Swingin’ Live at the Church Studio in Tulsa. He has also been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association and will be honored with a Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025.
Even after more than fifty years since his debut, Taj Mahal remains a beacon of innovation and relevance in the music world, constantly sharing the beauty of the blues.
