Jessie Rebik will explore painting as a visual language within Western art. Starting with the rise of oil painting and its connection to realism and pictorial representation, she will discuss how artists across various movements have approached the relationship between representation, surface, emotion, and meaning.
Additionally, Rebik will examine the material, physical, and expressive qualities of paint itself.
