“We were in the midst of finishing Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom when I introduced a tune called Walking With His Sleeves Down. Amy's piano rendition was breathtaking, yet it didn’t quite fit the record’s theme—so we set it aside. Songs like The Reckless Life were shelved for similar reasons, pulling listeners into darker narratives rather than the romantic road tales of our previous work.”

As the opioid crisis painted a haunting backdrop, Vlautin's writing flourished. New tracks like Dilaudid Diane and Jumping off in Madras are poised to reflect this reality.
