About the event

The Silent Volunteer: A Tribute to Aberfan 🎭

Join us for a heartfelt exploration of the Aberfan disaster's legacy with The Silent Volunteer, a powerful play directed by Sue Bevan. In this poignant performance, a talented cast, deeply connected to the events of that fateful Friday morning 60 years ago, asks, β€œHave we learnt from our mistakes?”

This remarkable play shines a light on the critical role volunteers played in the aftermath of the tragedy. It emphasizes that the disaster was not simply β€œan act of God” and advocates for preventing similar occurrences in future mining areas.

In conjunction with this performance, Avant Cymru proudly collaborates with Coalfield Regeneration to present a thought-provoking exhibition and a Q&A session.

As we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster, the descendants of the brave volunteers invite the community to engage in a vital conversation about how these historical events continue to influence mining communities today.

Let’s remember, listen, and learn together.
