"Utantill/By Heart" Workshop Part II
Join us for Part II of Lisa Nyberg's captivating "Utantill/By Heart" Workshop!
This workshop serves as an introduction to the rich tradition of origin stories and oral storytelling. 📖✨ It’s perfect for anyone who values the art of retelling as a means of embodied and political expression. Together, we will navigate beyond the mainstream narratives that often overshadow our histories and invite a myriad of origin stories to the forefront.
Through our shared exploration, these narratives will take shape in our own words, embedding them into the body-mind of our collective experience. This workshop, rooted in hope, seeks to establish a safe space for creativity without offering guarantees.
No prior attendance in Part I is required! Everyone is welcome, but please ensure you register by emailing lisa.nyberg@gmail.com. 📨
Included in the workshop are drinks and a small meal. 🍽️
About "Utantill/By Heart"
This initiative dives into the practices of oral storytelling, emphasizing how this tradition transcends written texts and serves as a vital conduit for passing knowledge across generations. 🌍 Oral narratives have a unique power to bypass institutional histories, allowing storylines to flourish outside colonial contexts. Retelling is not only an act of preservation but also a way to invigorate and affirm culture.
Lisa Nyberg invites you to engage with oral storytelling through various means, including a stunning installation of tapestries and objects that enhance her narratives. As an artist, teacher, and researcher, Nyberg’s work explores the profound relationship between knowledge and art—how these two realms shape our understanding of the world.
💡 Nyberg draws on Swedish and Saami folk traditions, integrating performance, installations, and workshops into her practice. Additionally, she contributes to educational art programs, supports artists at risk, and fosters radical pedagogical discussions as an associate professor at Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Sápmi/Sweden.
The exhibition is curated by roda – soft water on hard stone.
