Westside Cowboy — Folkteatern, Way Out West

Not every band invents its own genre. But Westside Cowboy did. They call it “Britainicana” — a tongue-in-cheek description for music shaped as much by American mythology as by life in the north of England. In practice, that means country phrasing colliding with punk, folk harmonies tangled up in scrappy alt-rock guitars, and songs that feel simultaneously rowdy, melodic, reckless and strangely welcoming. It is music deeply aware of tradition while refusing to behave too respectfully around it. The wheels have been spinning fast for the Manchester quartet ever since the release of debut single “I’ve Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You)” in 2024. Since then, their restless, frenetic alt-rock has turned both critics and audiences into true believers, earning them support slots with bands like Geese and Black Country, New Road, alongside a rapidly growing reputation as one of the UK’s most thrilling young live acts. On the recent EP “So Much Country ’Till We Get There”, Westside Cowboy continue to stretch their sound further outward — louder, sharper, more emotionally unhinged but somehow even more immediate. This summer, Westside Cowboy bring their Britainicana to Stay Out West.
