I will always make a reservation for a table for ten people. If the AW is popular be prepared to stand. I make the reservation in advance and people register to attend at the last minute - and many times people who have registered do not show up so it is impossible to reserve a table for the exact number of people who will come.
Just remember, standing up makes it easier to mingle and meet new people :-D But if you really want to sit, show up on time.
