Visit site"There is so much to say about soap. Precisely everything that it tells about itself until the complete disappearance, the exhaustion of the subject. This is just the object suited to me."– Francis Ponge To step into Malmö Art Academy’s bachelor exhibition is to encounter a momentary stillness. Not only because the atmosphere evoked by the works often moves within states of silence and contemplation, but also because the exhibition marks a pause in the movement these twelve emerging artists have been engaged in over the past three years. They have searched, observed, tested, and plunged into the realities of artistic practice today. Their inquiries have settled into a form through which they meet the world. Yet the pause is temporary. It is a statement awaiting a response before continuing.Throughout the exhibition, a recurring attention to the everyday comes into view. Objects, rooms, and places in our immediate surroundings are rendered through sustained observation, at times to the point of estrangement. In this proximity to the quotidian, a double movement takes place – returning to what is already there, and yet quietly reformulating it.The everyday is approached through multiple perspectives: the materiality of objects and spaces, the histories they carry, the agency of matter, and the ways structure shapes experience. Some focus on fragments of a lost or dispersed whole; others on the remains of a fleeting moment. Still others linger in the transitions themselves. The tension between movement and pause makes itself felt. To inhabit a world in motion, there must also be a fixed point. A place from which to orient oneself, a ground from which to build. Even in its most familiar forms, the everyday carries the potential to become otherwise.Elias Kautsky, curatorOpening hoursOpening Friday 8 may 19.00–21.00, Opening speech: 20.00Exhibition period 8 –23 MayTuesday–Friday 12.00–18.00Saturday–Sunday 12.00–16.00Gallery KHM1, Friisgatan 15Gallery KHM2, Bergsgatan 29, 3rd floorOur Annual Exhibition opens the same dayOn 8 May, we will also open our Annual exhibition at Båghallarna, Föraregatan 4 where all of our students open up their studios for smaller solo presentations, while the school's project rooms and common areas are transformed into a large group exhibition.
