What was it like to embark on a road trip before the iconic Route 66? Early automobile travel was filled with adventure and uncertainty, as roads were merely uncharted paths and vehicles were technological novelties. In an effort to improve navigation, the Automobile Club of Southern California undertook a monumental project between 1914 and 1915, signposting the National Old Trails Road—the precursor to the famed Route 66!
