
Beginners basketry workshop: round baskets
Join us for a hands-on willow basket-making workshop, perfect for complete beginners! 🎨 This session introduces you to the fundamentals of traditional West Country basket-making, guiding you through the creation of a functional round basket using pre-woven bases.
Workshop Highlights:
- Learn Essential Techniques: Stake up your basket's structure, weave the sides, and finish with a simple track border using local practices.
- Supportive Atmosphere: Enjoy a relaxed environment with plenty of time for hands-on making, questions, and quiet moments of weaving.
- Cultural Insight: Discover the rich cultural and material history of basketry.
🕙 The workshop runs from 10am to 2:30pm, with a short break for lunch (please bring your own). Tea and coffee will be provided. All tools and materials are included.
👤 Led by Lewis Prosser, an “absurdist basketmaker” from Wales, who combines traditional techniques with a playful, contemporary approach.

The primary goal of this event is to raise funds for WMBT, supporting the conservation, management, and improvement of the WMBT site.
