Bookbinding As Memorywork: An introductory bookbinding workshop

Join us for an introductory bookbinding workshop that explores bookbinding as a means of memory preservation, empowering you to take control of your own records and stories. This workshop honors personal memories and intimate archives.

Unverified accounts and heartfelt archives are where life's moments occur — in the annotations written in the margins of our books, or the hastily scribbled notes on sticky notes and scrap paper. How can we preserve and honor these valuable records?

Bring your own ephemera—love letters, notes, grocery lists, napkins, pictures, etc.—and learn three basic bookbinding techniques using the materials we provide. An optional take-home bookbinding toolkit is available for an additional cost. No prior experience is necessary!

This workshop builds on the first version, originally titled Lost then Bound: Reclaiming Memorywork Bookbinding Workshop, which took place at Land to Sea in Brooklyn in 2025.
