Cartography of Memory: A Movement Workshop

Join us for Cartography of Memory, a unique participatory movement workshop that delves into how memory, identity, home, and belonging reside within our bodies.

✨ Engage in individual and paired movements using simple sheets of white paper, transforming them into sculptures, stages, and more — exploring delicate emotions and personal encounters. This workshop emphasizes presence, listening, curiosity, and communal care and is open to participants from all backgrounds.

🔮 As the project develops, there may be opportunities for participants to engage further in future performances, films, installations, and other interdisciplinary forms.

About the Artist:

Jianing Zhao (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in movement, theater, and visual arts. Originally from Hangzhou and currently based in Harlem, she integrates diverse disciplines, including pole, aerial, contact improv, contemporary dance, parkour, martial arts, dabke, ballroom, and freestyle skiing, to create new embodied mythologies.

🎭 Her remarkable work has been showcased at renowned venues, including TheaterLab, Theater Mitu, Theatre 154, Chain Theatre, Princeton Art Museum, and many others.
