Chica Checa
At first glance, 55-year-old Zdena leads the ordinary life of a rural mail carrier. But her life isn’t easy. Her house is falling apart, and she copes with her loneliness by pickling cucumbers and watching TV. Her son Lukáš lives in France—successful, happy, far away—or at least that’s how he appears on the screen of the old computer they occasionally use to stay in touch. When Lukáš’s grandmother Věra expresses her last wish—to see Helena Vondráčková—it seems like the whim of a dying woman. But with Lukáš’s arrival home comes a secret he has carefully guarded for years. His visit sets off an avalanche: it turns out he is gay and makes a living as the successful drag queen Chica Checa. It also turns out that Zdena longs for a different life than those around her expect. Their efforts to make the 90-year-old grandmother happy bring Lukáš and Zdena together—and perhaps even surprise them a little. Because when you stop lying to those closest to you, you have to stop lying to yourself as well…
