🌾 What Is a Barn Quilt?

Barn quilts are large, painted wooden panels crafted to resemble traditional fabric quilt block patterns. Typically displayed on barns, homes, sheds, or chicken coops, they represent a beloved form of Americana folk art rooted in rural heritage. Their bold, geometric designs bring community-driven public art to life across the countryside.

🖌️ About the Workshop

Come learn the craft of making a miniature barn quilt guided by Hunters Point Shipyard artist Marc Ellen Hamel — a painter, printmaker, and collage artist with a studio at Hunters Point Shipyard for over 30 years. Marc Ellen has created more than 50 barn quilts, a meditative practice she developed during Covid while spending time in Plumas County.
