New Yorkers are passionate debaters, arguing about everything from food choices to fashion statements. While disagreement can foster connection, many have not mastered the art of constructive conversation. In this fast-paced world, clarity has taken a back seat to speed, and curiosity often gets overshadowed by certainty.
The Critical Thinking Club seeks to change this narrative by offering a welcoming environment for New Yorkers who aspire to enhance their clarity of thought and communication. Our aim isn't to "win" arguments but to enrich our listening skills, embrace disagreements positively, and articulate our opinions respectfully.

We’ll delve into critical thinking exercises that include:
- Articulating opposing viewpoints
- Differentiating personal experiences from larger evidence
- Recognizing hidden assumptions in ourselves and others
- Adapting our stances without sacrificing values or credibility
🗣️ What to Expect:
- A structured debate led by a seasoned critical thinker.
- Engaging small-group discussions guided by thoughtful prompts.
- A psychologically safe space that nurtures disagreement.
The evening will spotlight a moderated discussion between two everyday New Yorkers advocating opposing views. Our expert moderator will keep the dialogue focused and will step in when faulty reasoning emerges, inviting speakers to clarify their ideas. Remember, mistakes are a part of learning! Once the debate concludes, everyone will break into small groups to practice critical thinking skills.
📅 Agenda:
- 6:30 - 7:00 PM: Arrive, grab refreshments, and mingle.
- 7:00 - 7:05 PM: Kick-off with goals, moderator, and speaker introductions.
- 7:05 - 7:35 PM: Opening statements followed by a Q&A.
- 7:35 - 8:05 PM: Breakout discussions in small groups (4-6 per group).
- 8:05 - 8:10 PM: Wrap-up session where participants share key insights.
- 8:10 - 8:45 PM: Social hour with speakers and attendees.
- 9:00 PM & beyond: Stay tuned for after-party details!
