Come and immerse yourself in the vibrant sounds of Fran Vielma’s Pan American Jazz Orchestra! 🌍 This incredible ensemble, which made its debut in 2021, is dedicated to celebrating contemporary jazz that echoes the musical heritages of Pan-America. From the roots in 19th-century New Orleans to the profound influences of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora and the Haitian Revolution, this orchestra draws inspiration from legendary artists like Justo Aspiazú, Chano Pozo, Mario Bauzá, Machito, Chico O’Farrill, and Dizzy Gillespie. 🎶

With esteemed musicians such as Lucho Bermúdez from Colombia, Aldemaro Romero from Venezuela, and Astor Piazzolla from Argentina serving as influences, the multi-award-winning composer and percussionist Fran Vielma leads this stellar group. The orchestra is currently in the works for their debut album, featuring an array of remarkable musicians.

Since 2022, they’ve held a residency at Mr. Henry’s Jazz Club in Washington, D.C., while also gracing venues throughout the Washington/Baltimore area. Catch the orchestra at popular events including Jazz in the Parks DC and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival. Furthermore, they have initiated an annual free street concert in NW D.C., aiming to enrich local communities with world-class jazz performances. 🎉

Fran Vielma is hailed as a percussion colourist of great distinction, known for his mastery of counterpoint and instrumental timbre. Hailing from the Venezuelan Andes, this critically acclaimed multi-percussionist, composer, and educator passionately blends rhythms from across America with the freedom found in jazz. 🎵
